This article focused on the under-researched concept of work intensification among domestic workers. Domestic work in Zimbabwe remains a primary source of employment for rudimentary qualified women in both rural and urban areas. This prompted the need for this research to understand better two essential dimensions of an employer-worker relationship, work intensification and job satisfaction. The sample comprised 25 participants, of whom 15 were domestic workers, and 10 were employers of domestic workers. The research used a qualitative approach to understand better the dynamics of work intensification among rural women employed as domestic workers in rural Zimbabwe. Our findings show that employers bring about work intensification in domestic work settings. This is further exacerbated by unpaid overtime hours. Moreover, work intensification in the studied sample deteriorates job satisfaction and relations between employer and employee. As a result, productivity dwindles in the long term because of exhaustion and burnout.

Risk aversion is one of the major impediments to entrepreneurship, and the survival and growth of startups in the developing world. Female entrepreneurs portray even a higher risk averse attitude regarding starting new businesses or introducing new business lines in their existing businesses. The intention of this study is to explore strategies that can be employed to reduce risk aversion among female entrepreneurs. A qualitative research methodology was utilized to carry out the research, with the interview technique being used as the main data collection tool. Snowballing and convenience sampling techniques were utilized to select 8 organizations and 21 female entrepreneurs who participated in the study. The study found out that entrepreneurial literacy significantly reduces risk aversion among female entrepreneurs by providing them with quality education and training on financial and income generation skills and competencies. Risk aversion can also be reduced among female entrepreneurs by assigning them to reputable business mentors to inspire them and also assist them to break cultural and societal barriers. The ‘do not do it alone’ principle and motivation through the creation of entrepreneurship forums and stakeholder interventions and schemes that support female entrepreneurship also help to minimize risk aversion.

Conflict in domestic employment breeds several psychosocial consequences that significantly affect organizational competitiveness. The main purpose of the study was to examine the psychosocial effects of conflict between domestic workers in rural areas and their employers. A qualitative research approach was utilized to carry out the study, with an interview being used as the main data gathering instrument. 25 snowballing selected domestic workers participated in the study. The study found out that conflict between domestic workers and their employers adversely affect the psychosocial wellbeing of workers. Conflict causes psychosocial disorders and illnesses such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, hypertension, headache, lack of sleep and loss of appetite. The study further established that conflicts in domestic employment propel depression and anxiety, low job satisfaction, sexual disorders and breeds inferiority complex. It was recommended that domestic workers in rural areas should form their own unions which pursue their peculiar needs.
