“…It is now apparent that the formation spans the Jurassic/Cretaceous boundary, and spiticeratid ammonites are relatively common in the upper levels of the formation at Longing Gap. They also occur in clasts of this formation reworked within the younger Cretaceous volcaniclastic sediments of James Ross Island (Whitham and Doyle, 1989). There are representatives of both Hibolithes and finely ribbed oxytomid bivalves in the Nordenskjold Formation.…”

“…Gonzalez-Ferran et al (1970), Tavera (1970), and Thomson (1979) have all described fragmentary specimens of Spiticeras from the western Antarctic Peninsula. In addition, specimens of this genus have recently been collected from the Nordenskjold Coast (eastern Antarctic Peninsula; Whitham and Doyle, 1989). The present specimen is difficult to compare with these examples because it lacks the ventral margin.…”

“…Selected macrofossil localities: mid-Carbonifeous and Permian from Mt. King (Kelly et al, 2001), Permian from the Erehwon Nunataks (Gee, 1989), and Jurassic marine fossils (coil symbol) from Thomson (1993), including the Jurassic fossils on James Ross Island (JRI) (boxed symbol) contained in blocks displaced from Graham Land (Whitham and Doyle, 1989). Jurassic Larsen and Latady Basins are from Hunter and Cantrill (2006).…”

“…2a). Interbedded tuffs and mudstones of the Nordenskj61d Formation (Farquharson 1982(Farquharson , 1983Whitham & Doyle 1989) were deposited in anoxic marine basins on the eastern side of the magmatic arc during Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous times (Kimmeridgian-Berriasian). The sedimentary rocks are part of a much more widespread anoxic event in the South Atlantic region (Farquharson 1982).…”
