Stream order and connectivity affect phosphorus distribution in plain river network

Abstract: The order and connectivity of streams influence phosphorus distribution extensively. In this work, the space-and-time variabilities of total phosphorus (TP), particulate phosphorus (PP), total dissolved phosphorus (TDP), dissolved reactive phosphorus (DRP), and dissolved unreactive phosphorus (DUP) in streams of three orders (Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ) were analyzed during each spring of 2016-2018 in a plain river network area, China. The results show that: ① PP was the main form of TP and DRP was the main form of TDP. ② The av… Show more

“…Other studies have taken the overall river network as the research object. These studies have researched the quantitative expression of geometric and hydrological characteristics, spatiotemporal changes, geometric form changes of river networks, fractal river network under urbanization, and its influence on water pollution (Li & Hua, 2021; Lyu, Zhou, & Li, 2020; Yu, Disse, Huang, Yu, & Li, 2016; Zhou, Shi, Wang, Yu, & Gao, 2011). The results of these studies show that the river network structure is truncated and simplified under urbanization (McBride & Booth, 2005; Taniguchi & Biggs, 2015).…”
