Stress Analysis Based on Simultaneous Heart Rate Variability and EEG Monitoring

Abstract: Objective: Stress is a significant risk factor for various diseases such as hypertension, heart attack, stroke, and even sudden death. Stress can also lead to psychological and behavioral disorders. Heart rate variability (HRV) can reflect changes in stress levels while other physiological factors, like blood pressure, are within acceptable ranges. Electroencephalogram (EEG) is a vital technique for studying brain activities and provides useful data regarding changes in mental status. This study incorporates E… Show more

“…Stress is a process that increases a person's adaptive capacity and leads to the psychological and biological changes [1]. The stress could be short-term acute stress and long-term chronic stress.Magnification of the duration of stress, strength action of stressors, can caused distress, which can be potential risks for diseases.…”

“…Brain is the central part of stress generation and its spectral features are closely related to different psychophysiological conditions. As a result, researches believes that the power of EEG bands, such as alpha, beta, delta, theta and gamma, is the most credible indicators when detecting and analyzing stress [20,21]. Power spectrum has been widely applied in the analysis of stress [22].…”

“…In addition, EEG frequently provides an entirely non-invasive procedure without any limitations to patients, healthy adults, and children. 17 For brain wave classification, an EEG recording is required for individuals depending on the application or research area. The subjects are asked to close their eyes and relax to obtain stable electrical signals from the detector.…”
