“…On multivariate analysis, family problems had a statistical association to low academic performance (36.9% v 25.9%), depression (47.9% v 23.1%) and suicidal thoughts (100% v 15.6%) along with substance abuse (58.5% v 27%) and pre marital sexual activity (79.4% v 24.4%). It is seen that adolescents with family dispute where parents are not taking care of the basic needs like books and clothes are more vulnerable to school and academic problems which is in accordance to study done by Arun and Chavan (2009) 20 . Poor inter parental relationships and stressful family environment with lack of parental supervision and intellectual stimulation negatively aff ects the school performance in adolescents as was also found by Munni and Malhi (2001) in their study in Chandigarh adolescents 21 .…”

“…Though the determinants of low-grade inflammation are not fully elucidated in India [9,10], psychological stress could explain yet another factor responsible for this. A high prevalence of psychological distress was also observed among the participants, which concords with previous reports on prevalence (46%) among students of government-run schools in India [45,46]. Based on adult cutoff of CRP, we found that 18% of participants were at moderate risk and 7% were at high risk of inflammation.…”

“…To mention a few, firstly, adolescents in India do not enjoy good health and a 3 month period prevalence documented that 81% of them had illness with 60% needing psychological help [11]. Other studies too have reported that 31-46% of adolescents have significant psychosocial problems that need expert help [12,13]. These mental health problems have the potential to frequently persist into adulthood generating substantial functional impairment and subsequent social burden [14], if they are not identified and treated early [15].…”
