Stress Estimation in Different Bone Layers Subject to Therapeutic Ultrasound in an Intelligent Bone System

Abstract: Physiological effects caused by power ultrasound radiation are of therapeutic benefits for fracture healing. However, these effects are hard to detect with current instrumentations. The aim of this paper is to analyze the behavior of bone subject to therapeutic ultrasound and provide data reference for an intelligent bone ultrasonic system. In this paper, we adopted a 3-D finite element method as a virtual measurement tool to study the acoustic-radiation-induced stress fields inside and on the surface of bone.… Show more

“…At the same time, fast and low-cost risks of bone fracture assessment services and instruments are in increasing demand. [19] Quantitative ultrasound (QUS) could achieve the biomechanical characteristics in bone diagnosis, [20] which has the advantages of safety without ionizing radiation, [21] quick deployment, and low cost. [22][23][24] Recently, Wear et al [25][26][27][28][29][30] and Matsukawa et al [31] reviewed that ultrasound is an effective tool in bone diagnosis.…”
