Stress Responses of Neonates Related to Maternal Characteristics

Abstract: PurposeTo investigate the pre- and post-heelstick stress response patterns of infants and to identify related maternal factors.Materials and MethodsFifty-two mothers and their 57 infants were studied. Stress response patterns in neonates were collected by measurements of pulse rate, oxygen saturation, and salivary cortisol. Maternal demographic factors and awakening saliva were collected.ResultsMedian level of pulse rate of infant increased from 132.1 to 140.4 beats per minute and salivary cortisol was elevate… Show more

“…To investigate the specific mechanism of cell proliferation of negative pressure-treated MSCs, ER stress-associated proteins (UPR pathway) (25,26), including p-Perk, IRE1 and cleaved ATF6 levels, were detected. Three proteins were demonstrated to be activated when treated with negative pressure.…”

“…There is an increasing evidence that ER stress acts a significant function in the apoptosis regulation. Two specific signaling pathways were involving the ER stress process, such as, unfolded protein responses (UPR) and ER-associated protein degradation7,8 UPR pathway participates in the activation of some specific proteins, including activating transcription factor 6 (ATF6), PKR-like ER kinase (PERK), and inositol requiring proteins 1 (IRE1) 9. The above three pathways of UPR activate several transcription factors, such as eukaryotic translation initiation factor-2α (eIF-2α) and X-box transcription factor-1 (XBP1).…”

“…Amylase is also used as a psychological stress biomarker 22 along with chromogranin A 23 and cortisol. 24,25 The increase in amylase was not linked to the chromogranin A (Fig. 2) or cortisol concentrations (data not shown).…”
