Stress Wave Propagation in Viscoelastic-Plastic Rock-Like Materials

Abstract: Rock-like materials are composites that can be regarded as a mixture composed of elastic, plastic, and viscous components. They exhibit viscoelastic-plastic behavior under a high-strain-rate loading according to element model theory. This paper presents an analytical solution for stress wave propagation in viscoelastic-plastic rock-like materials under a high-strain-rate loading and verifies the solution through an experimental test. A constitutive equation of viscoelastic-plastic rock-like materials was first… Show more

“…Additionally, as analytical solutions to these problems proved elusive, numerical methods, such as Godunov schemes and similar Riemann solvers, were developed to simulate plastic wave propagation [41][42][43][44][45][46][47]. Applications of this body of research have traditionally focused on the determination of dynamic stress-strain curves [48][49][50][51][52], simulation of ballistic penetration [53][54][55][56], and propagation of waves in inelastic geomechanics [57][58][59][60][61]. For additional information, we refer readers to the reviews by Cristescu [62] and Lee [63].…”
