Strong Binding Affinity of a Zinc–Porphyrin‐Based Receptor for Halides through the Cooperative Effects of Quadruple CH Hydrogen Bonds and Axial Ligation

Abstract: A new type of host compound (1), tetraphenyl zinc-porphyrin (ZnTPP) that contains four triazole groups at the ortho-position of each phenyl group, has been synthesized and characterized by using (1)H, (13)C NMR, and MALDI-TOF-MS analyses. The host-guest complex formation between 1 and halides was investigated by using (1)H NMR spectroscopy in [D(6)]DMSO. The triazole, benzyl, and phenylene proton signals were shifted upfield by the addition of halides in the form of tetrabutylammonium salts, which implies that… Show more

“…Here, a pair of BTz substituents placed on the same porphyrin plane can cooperatively bind the CN − ligands. 44 Moreover, according to the crystal structures, the protons of Tz groups heading toward the porphyrin plane effectively encompass the CN − ligands. These features enforce that the position of CN − can be determined to locate toward the porphyrin plane.…”

“…The absorption spectrum of (PS 20 ) 4 –Zn in chloroform is shown as an example (Figure 5). The dominant contributions to the broadened Soret band and Q ‐bands are typical of a zinc porphyrin without an axial substituent,35,36 whereas the red‐shifted shoulder features are attributed to the porphyrinatozinc–triazole complex. As the total concentration of the PPC was varied, the relative proportions of these two populations changed (Figure 6), indicating an equilibrium between unimers and self‐assembled oligomers in solution…”

“…18) with halides was investigated in CH 2 Cl 2 . 37 The UV-Vis absorption spectrum showed that both the Soret and The tri-and tetrapodal viologen-derived hosts 53-56 (see Fig. 19 for structures) displayed colorimetric sensing properties to the carboxylate anions in CH 3 CN.…”
