Strong Enhancement of Dd-Reaction Accompanied by X-Ray Generation in a Pulsed Low Voltage High-Current Deuterium Glow Discharge With a Titanium Cathode

Abstract: Using noiseless solid-state CR-39 plastic track and Al 2 O 3 :C thermo-luminescent detectors, the yields of 3.0 MeV protons from DD-reaction and soft x-ray photons emitted from the cathode were studied in the periodic pulsing deuterium glow discharge with titanium cathodes at low discharge voltages (in the range 0.8-2.5 kV) and high current density (300-600 mA/cm 2). The analysis of DD-proton yield versus accelerating voltages allowed us to estimate the deuteron screening potential value U S in the deuteron en… Show more

“…We note that there has appeared very recently measurements of dd-fusion cross sections at low energy which appear to show significant enhancements 3 (see also [4] Earlier measurements in TiD produced reaction rates similar to that of D 2 , while the new measurements show very large enhancements. We await experimental confirmation of the effect.…”

“…We assume in this model that we have N 1 deuteron pairs (with double occupation of a site) which may fuse with phonon exchange to make 4 He. The excitation energy from the reactions is used to drive excitations elsewhere within the coherence domain of a highly excited phonon.…”

“…From our experience Zr oxidizes readily. So a relatively thick metal oxide layer explains the results and the discrepancy to the value in [22]. It was obtained with a glow discharge of 2 0% 5 A deuteron current.…”
