Structural analysis and dielectric property of novel conjugated polycyanurates

Abstract: Structural characterizations reveal that the plasma polymerization of three cyanate ester monomers proceeded mainly via the opening of p-bonds of the cyanate ester functional groups and transforming them to a large p-conjugated structure, which is noticeably different from the conventional thermal or catalytic cyclotrimerization reaction of cyanate ester monomers. The dielectric properties of the resulting plasma thin films were evaluated and results show that the dielectric constant of the three polycyanurate… Show more

“…Wave-transmitting and high-temperature resistant materials have become one of the most important multifunctional medium materials in aeronautics and astronautics, which are used as a window material to protect the normal operation of communication, telemetry, guidance, detonation and other systems of spacecraft in harsh environments [1][2][3]. To date, the common of employed wave-transmitting and hightemperature materials are almost quartz fibrereinforced polymer composites and ceramic-matrix composites [4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11]. And they have attracted a great deal of attention owing to their fundamental importance and applicability in various modern technologies.…”

“…In other words, the catalytic cyclotrimerization was not active enough at processing temperature. However, the characteristic absorption bands of —O—C≡N were not observed at the FTIR spectra of CoAt(III)/BPAF/BACY system, it suggested that BPAF had enough activity to cure BACY completely at 200 °C within 3 h. Moreover, in all curves, the absorption bands at 1612, 1501, and 1459 cm −1 were attributed to the stretching vibrations of benzene ring backbone, and the characteristic absorptions at 2878 and 2971 cm −1 were corresponded to C—H . In the spectra of CoAt(III)/BPAF/BACY system, the characteristic absorption bands at 927 and 966 cm −1 referred to C—F of trifluoromethyl groups.…”

“…Sibel et al concluded that PCN films with controllable dielectrical properties at a wide range of frequency and temperature can be used in aerospace and microelectronic applications as functional surface coating materials. Xiong‐Yan Zhao et al show that the dielectric constant of the novel conjugated polycyanurate thin films decreased with increasing frequency, while in contrast, the dielectric loss factor increased with the increasing frequency.…”
