Structural and acoustic investigations of calcium borate glasses

Abstract: Acoustic and structural properties of x CaO · (1–x ) B2O3 (0.2 ≤ x ≥ 0.7) glass system have been studied at ambient temperature. The ultrasonic velocity and attenuation for different compositions of calcium borate glasses were measured at 5 MHz at room temperature (303 K) using a pulse echo overlap method. The elastic moduli, Debye temperature, Poisson's ratio and other acoustic parameters have been obtained from experimental data. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic analysis has been used to further supp… Show more

“…Metal borates, such as aluminum borate [12][13][14], magnesium borate [15,16], and barium borate [17][18][19], are remarkable ceramic materials with excellent mechanical properties. Among various metal borates, calcium borates with various chemical compositions have been paid great attention in recent years owing to their great potential applications for glass fibers, antiwear additive, ceramic coatings, porcelain enamel, optics materials, fire retardant, dielectric devices, ultraviolet light sources, light emission diodes, and luminescent phosphors [20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27].…”

“…Pure borate glass is made up of random network of boroxyl units with boron in three-fold co-ordination (BO 3 ). The addition of modifier helps in forming BO 4 groups and non bridging oxygen, so increase of the non-bridging oxygen leads to open the network structure and the increase of durability [6,7]. The objective of this work is to through light into the optical characterization of silver ion doped sodium borate glasses by recording IR and UV-VIS spectra.…”
