Structural conversion of three copper(ii) complexes with snapshot observations based on the different crystal colours and morphology

Abstract: Structural conversion of three novel Cu(ii) complexes [Cu2(L)2(MeOH)2] (1), [Cu2(L)2(H2O)2] (2) and [CuL(H2O)] (3) (L = (E)-2-((2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzylidene)amino)acetic acid) in different time scales of reaction processing.

“…When compared with related copper(II) complexes reported in the literature, similar Cu−O and Cu−N bond distances around the copper(II) are observed [64,65] . Nevertheless, the axial bond distance [2.301(7) Å] which is considerably larger, is typical for Cu−O complexes with water molecules and comparable to the distances found for analogous copper( II ) complexes [66,67] . Two chelate rings, one five‐membered and another six‐membered, detected in 1 are substantially non‐planar.…”

“…[64,65] Nevertheless, the axial bond distance [2.301( 7) Å] which is considerably larger, is typical for CuÀ O complexes with water molecules and comparable to the distances found for analogous copper(II) complexes. [66,67] Two chelate rings, one five-membered and another six-membered, detected in interaction. [68] As displayed in Figure 2, the packing diagram of ChemistrySelect 1 exhibits strong hydrogen bonding interactions involving the carboxylate and coordinated/uncoordinated water molecules.…”

“…Solvents used in the processes of crystallization lead to the formation of different crystal structures and compositions, and thus affect their properties. Observed structural changes are characterized by a slight modification of the number of non-coordinated solvent molecules [ 42 , 43 , 44 ]. For the luminescence and UV-Vis studies, single crystals of the product were used [ 41 ].…”

“…And these analogues exhibited excellent catalysis and luminescent sensing properties. 32 In our earlier work, we devised a unique method for synthesizing tridentate ligands, which are 5-substituted compounds of salicylaldehyde-modified glycine. One of the advantages of these ligands is that their metal coordination complexes include open coordination sites, which create a platform to achieve dynamical control over the compositions and structures of coordination complexes.…”
