Our group previously reported an association between stimulation of the BN and hedonic emotions (e.g., happiness and euphoria) in PTSD patients (Avecillas-Chasin et al, 2020 ). This effect may be important to note with regards to future neuromodulatory therapies for addiction, especially given previous studies describing the increase in NAc dopamine release and relapse in drug-seeking behavior with non-specific BLA stimulation (Blaha et al, 1997 ; Floresco et al, 1998 ; Hayes et al, 2003 ; Li et al, 2018 ).…”

“…The inputs to and outputs from the amygdala include ventral amygdalofugal pathway, stria terminalis, basal forebrain, temporal lobe structures, olfactory stria, thalamus, hypothalamus, striatum, and brain stem (Whalen and Phelps, 2009). To investigate the neural circuits involved in the various stimulation conditions, we have done an analysis of the volume of tissue activated (Avecillas-Chasin et al, 2019). It showed that the positive effects arise from stimulating the basal nucleus and associate with the ventral amydalofugal pathway.…”
