The tie rod ensures the safety of vehicle on both impact and vibration perspective also plays one of the major roles in connecting primary parts of automobile and steering mechanism. Its end is an indication system of vehicle alignment. The tie rod end maintains the proper adjustment access of the wheel as well as indirectly limits the inner and outer edge wear of tires. Hence the appropriate functioning of tie rod assembly system is essential for the automobile system (steering and suspension). Today's competitive world needs advanced technology with effective cost. This results in the mutation of conventional technology or method according to present requirements. Most of the automobile and commercial product manufacturing industries are in the obsession to make and launch the economical product with the limited time span. The engineers from various domains are deliberately designing unique products, which possess simple manufacturing process, lower cost of manufacturing and very minimum time consumption. The proposed design and analysis focus on general tie rod assembly functioning of the tractor which fails on the overload applications. Firstly, old tie rod design and materials used for effective agriculture applications were studied and the mutated design with various stresses and deformation characteristics under critical loading conditions are investigated using ANSYS software.

The tie rod end is one of the most elementary parts of a steering mechanism, which has direct and crucial importance in terms of driving safety. The tie rod end is used to ensure that the wheels are aligned. It provides the adjustment for the wheel to align and keeps the tires free from wearing out on the inner as well as outer edges. Hence the functioning of the tie rod is crucial for steering as well as suspension performance of the vehicle. Today's world is competitive. Market demands the advanced technology at a lower price. This reflects in making the technology cheaper. Hence every industry determined for the cost-effective product at a lower price and within minimum period for 'time to market. This puts a lot of pressure on engineers to consistently strive to design the more effective products at the lower price. The work is focused on the functioning of the tie rod. Generally, tractor connecting tie rod gets failed due to the overload applications. This paper focuses on modifying the old tie rod design and material. Finally, analysis the load causes of existing and modified design using ANSYS software. This modelling approach, the stress variations and deformation characteristics of each component are investigated for high operational loading conditions.

Steering Wheel Tie Rod Fatigue Life Determination According to Turkish Mission Profiles

Abstract-In this study, Turkish customer automobile usage was determined by a questionnaire in order to form the Turkish Mission profile for a LCV (light commercial vehicle). A comparison between Turkish customer usage and a of the European County's mission profile was done. Referencing sale percentage of this vehicle and the region of the failures come out on other model vehicles were produced before and also Turkey's geographic and climate condition, a new test road was formed for this kind of vehicle. İn order to determine Turkey's rods fatigue characteristics a road test executed. About 50 road routes and some rough road's fatigue characteristics were acquitted with a LCV (Light Commercial vehicle) equipped with sensors. Collected data were elaborated with a software program such as; spike analysis, frequency analysis, artihmethic manipulation etc.. After that the general load spectrum of Turkey's roads belong to the steering wheel tie rod is formed. Rain-flow statistical counting method was applied steering wheel tie rod's signals in order to make fatigue comparisons meaningfully and other application. Then Fatigue analysis of the steering wheel tie rod according to MP (Turkish mission profiles) were calculated by using FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and verified by the Palsmgren-Miner rule.
