“…Training interventions for nurse leaders have been found to foster a better safety culture in hospitals (Ginsburg et al, 2005), while senior leaders' regular walk rounds create improvements in regard to health personnel perceptions of PSC (Frankel et al, 2008;Thomas et al, 2005). The RNs' positive perceptions of teamwork within ICU are in accordance with other PSC-studies from the same environment (Armellino et al, 2010;France et al, 2010;Snijders et al, 2009). ''Teamwork within hospital units'' was found to be a predictor for the outcome dimension ''overall perception of safety''.…”

Another explanation could be that the concept of patient safety is in the nurses’ minds and nurses are much more confident to deal with obstacles and difficulties related to safety issues, which is in line with Fitzpatrick et al., 20 who stated that nurses are usually more positive toward patient safety culture dimensions.…”

“…Kanter (1977) contended that organizational structure, or the position, contributed more to the empowerment of employees than their personal traits. Five social structural variables are hypothesized to reflect an empowering organizational environment, including an organic structure, sociopolitical support, access to strategic information, access to resources, and an integrative culture (Armellino, Quinn Griffin, & Fitzpatrick, 2010;Spreitzer, 1996). Empowering systems cascade decision-making authority throughout the organizational hierarchy so that employees can experience a sense of autonomy and feel that they can …”
