Structural, microstructural, and transport properties of highly oriented LaNiO3 thin films deposited on SrTiO3 (100) single crystal

Abstract: Electrical conductive textured LaNiO 3 / SrTiO 3 ͑100͒ thin films were successfully produced by the polymeric precursor method. A comparison between features of these films of LaNiO 3 ͑LNO͒ when heat treated in a conventional furnace ͑CF͒ and in a domestic microwave ͑MW͒ oven is presented. The x-ray diffraction data indicated good crystallinity and a structural orientation along the ͑h00͒ direction for both films. The surface images obtained by atomic force microscopy revealed similar roughness values, whereas… Show more

“…The el–ph coupling λ can be estimated using : λ = ( ћω p 2 /8 π 2 k B )[ ρ ( T ) – ρ (0)]/ T = 0.246( ћω p ) 2 A , where ћω p is the plasmon energy (≈1 eV) and k B is the Boltzmann constant. The values of λ of our samples range between 0.19(1) and 0.91(5) (see Table ), which is in a reasonable range compared with other reported values of 0.14 and 1 .…”

“…At high temperatures (100-300 K), the sheet resistance is linearly proportional to temperature due to dominant electron-phonon scattering, which corresponds well with the reported results on other LNO single films. 23 With the decreasing number of LNO unit cells in the SLs, insulating behavior appears. The metal-insulator transition has been reported in LNO ultra-thin films, in which the charge disproportionation with an accompanying symmetry change was considered the origin of this phenomenon.…”

“…All LNO single films show metallic conductivity in the measured temperature range from less than 50 K to 300 K. For modeling of conductivity of thick LNO films, see the former papers. 16,17 In the following, we discuss the extension of Ref. 16 to lower LNO thickness.…”
