“…In terms of the pavement surface, the most impactful parameter is the skid resistance, or the frictional force that develops in the tire-pavement area. Provided that adequate construction quality has been achieved for pavement layers and materials [53,54], the focus is usually being put on the functionality of the pavement [55]. Less vehicle stops correspond to non-zero speeds, thereby rutting, shoving, or other severe distresses, typically observed at simple intersections, tend to be absent provided that shear-resistant asphalt mixtures are properly designed.…”

“…In this study, input values for thicknesses and moduli are based on current experience from pavement design and construction such that they cover a wide spectrum of relevant practices in pavement engineering. The mechanistic behavior of the unbound materials is considered through a User-defined MATerial subroutine (UMAT), as was presented and validated in [33]. The impact of the analysis type on the predicted responses is outlined in terms of quantification of variations, to assist pavement design optimization and enhance performance prediction of existing structures.…”

“…Since the less expensive RA binder can replace a portion of the more expensive virgin binder, the use of RA binder is economical and may also help to reduce a set of environmental burdens [2,7,8]. With the rapid rise of asphalt prices [9], there have been several research efforts made towards maximizing the quantity of RAP used in the production of recycled asphalt mixtures (RAM) [10][11][12][13]. Many successful applications incorporating high RAP content have proved the great potential of RAP in road construction [1,[14][15][16].…”
