Structural phase transformations and nanotwin domains in 0.93Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3–0.07PbTiO3

Abstract: By means of combined dielectric permittivity and thermal current density measurements and in situ high-resolution synchrotron x-ray diffraction study, it is shown that the unpoled and poled 0.93Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3–0.07PbTiO3 (PZN–7%PT) single crystals undergo a R−(R+RNT+T+TNT)−(T+TNT)−C transformation sequence upon zero-field heating, where R, T and C are rhombohedral, tetragonal and cubic phases, respectively. Rhombohedral (RNT) and tetragonal (TNT) nanotwin domains were detected in the vicinity of the R–T t… Show more

“…The relationships between the monoclinic axes and the pc axes of the various M phases ͑i.e., M A , M B , and M C phases͒ and their expected characteristics in ͑002͒ RSM can be found in Ref. 19. When referred to the pc coordinates, a pc , b pc , and c pc axes all show possible degeneracy for the both the M A and M B systems.…”

“…(1 À x)Pb(Zn 1/3 Nb 2/3 )-x(PbTiO 3 ) ((1 À x)PZN-xPT) relaxor ferroelectrics are known to possess excellent piezoelectric and dielectric properties. 13 This solid solution belongs to the family of Perovskite structure. The sublattice A is occupied by Pb 2þ ions and the B-site is randomly occupied by Zn 2þ , Nb 5þ , and Ti 4þ ions.…”

“…3 (PZN-xPT) have been extensively studied during the past decade because of their excellent piezoelectric and dielectric properties essential for various technological applications. 1 The individual components of PZN-xPT are quite different in their structural behavior, leading to a very complex local structure of the mixed compound. PbTiO 3 (PT) is a normal ferroelectric undergoing a cubic-to-tetragonal phase transition at the Curie temperature T C , while PbZn 1/3 Nb 2/3 O 3 (PZN) is a relaxor ferroelectric (or relaxor) undergoing a sequence of phase transformations from a cubic to a rhombohedral phase with a few intermediate states consisting of polar nanoregions dispersed into a nonpolar matrix.…”
