Abstract:The F-plasmid of Escherichia coli is representative of conjugative type IV secretion systems for the transmission of mobile DNA elements in bacteria, a significant contributor to the evolution of antibiotic resistance. One of the largest proteins of this system, TraG consists of a membrane-bound N-terminal domain, and a periplasmic Cterminal domain denoted TraG*. Each domain has its own function; the membrane bound N-terminal domain is involved in F-pilus assembly while TraG* is bifunctional. In the donor cell… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
