Structural Studies of (π-C5H5)2MX2 Complexes and their Derivatives. The Structure of Bis(π-cyclopentadienyl)titanium Dichloride

Abstract: . Can. J. Chem. 53,1622Chem. 53, (1975. The crystal and molecular structure of bis(n-cyc1opentadienyl)titanium dichloride, (C5H5)?-TiCI,, has been determined from three dimensional X-ray data. The crystals are triclin~c with a = 7.882(5), b = 19.478(10), c = 12.156(9) A, a = 90.46(2), a = 102.58(2), y = 143.49(2)". Intensity data (3742 reflections above background) were collected by the 8-20 scan method using an automated counter diffractometer. The structure was refined in space group PI by block-diagonal le… Show more

“…The average Ti-C(Cp) bond distances of unsubstituted rings are 2.44 Å and the average Ti-C(Cp*) bond distances are 2.46-2.47 Å. These bonding parameters are very similar to those reported by X-ray diffraction techniques [17]. The Ti-C(Cp*) bond distances corresponding to the substituted carbon atoms of the Cp ligands (2.61 Å) are substantially longer than the remaining Ti-C distances.…”

“…The Ti----CI distances [mean 2.412 (3)/~] are normal and comparable to other published data (Clearfield et al, 1975;McKenzie, Sanner & Beraw, 1975). The Ti- [TiCI2(C5Hs)(ClsH210)] 2.38 (1) and 2.41 (1)/~ for Cp and Cp', respectivel),.…”

“…The Ti--C1 bond is slightly shorter than in the "dichloro complexes with cyclopentadienyl and methylcyclopentadienyl ligands [2.3340(8) versus 2.359 (2)-2.367(2), average 2.362A] (Clearfield et al, 1975;Petersen & Dahl, 1975). Sinfiolarly, for the Ti---C31 bond, the value of 2.259 (2)A is somewhat smaller than the Ti--Cph distance in [Cp2TiPh2] of 2.272 (14) A (Kocman, Rucklidge, O'Brien & Santo, 1971), although the C6H5 and C6F5 ligands may not be directly comparable.…”
