Structural Variations in Complex Sodium Thorium Arsenates

Abstract: Three new sodium thorium arsenates, Na5Th4(AsO4)7 (1), Na5Th(AsO4)3 (2), and Na4Th(As2O7)2 (3) were synthesized via a high temperature route and their structures and optical properties were studied. Compound 1 adopts a three‐dimensional structure that consists of tetrameric fundamental building blocks (FBBs) [Th4(AsO4)7]5–, which are constructed by ThO8 and ThO9 polyhedra. The structures of 2 and 3 are based on open frameworks with channels running along the a or c axes, respectively, which are occupied by Na … Show more

“…The last 2 decades has yielded structural insights into Th(IV) coordination and speciation . Specifically relevant to the current study includes inorganic Th-oxoanion complexes with halogens borate, sulfate, , molybdate, , chromate, nitrate, selenate, , and arsenate; assembled as oxoclusters, chains, sheets, and frameworks. , In addition to the specific knowledge of aqueous thorium complexation, structure, and reactivity; studies are carried out to expand our knowledge of trends across the f-block; and for example comparing structure and bonding of Ce(IV), Th(IV), U(IV), Np(IV), and Pu(IV) …”

“…In recent years, the research on DUV NLO crystals has been mainly focused on phosphates/phosphites, 6 borates, 7 aluminates, 8 silicates, 9 germanates, 10 and iodates, 11 such as Ba 5 P 6 O 20 , 12 Li 3 [Al(PO 4 ) 2 (H 2 O) 1.5 ], 13 KBe 2 BO 3 F 2 , 14 CaCe(IO 3 ) 3 (IO 3 F)F, 15 Ba 4 Ag 5 (IO 3 ) 6 (I 3 O 8 ) 3 (I 4 O 11 ) 2 , 16 etc. Among them, several DUV NLO phosphate crystals have been reported and studied recently; 17 for example, LiHgPO 4 , 18 RbNaMgP 2 O 7 , 19 Cs 2 LiPO 4 , 20 K 2 Sb(P 2 O 7 )F, 21 and Ba 3 P 3 O 10 X (X = Cl, Br) 22 are found to have good NLO performance in the DUV region.…”

“…borophosphates, 36 aluminophophates, 37 silicophosphates, 38 and germanophophates. 39 Among these, aluminophosphate (AlPO) molecular sieves have been extensively studied for their structural diversity as well as potential applications in magnetic, separation, catalysis, ion-exchange, and nonlinear optical (NLO) materials. 40 The aluminium atom has more diverse oxygen coordination environments than that of phosphorus and can form 4-, 5-, and 6-folded AlO 4 tetrahedra, AlO 5 pyramids, and AlO 6 octahedra in inorganic phases.…”
