Structure and emission properties of dinuclear copper(i) complexes with pyridyltriazole

Abstract: New highly emissive copper(i) complexes based on 3/4-pyridyltriazole have been synthesized and fully characterized. Photophysical properties and the mechanism of photo- and mechanochromic and excitation dependent luminescence are discussed.

“…2a, b and c show the molecular structures of 1, 2 and 3, respectively. In contrast to the previously described binuclear [Cu 2 I 2 L 2 (PPh 3 ) 2 ] complex 39 obtained similarly to complex 3, but with a reagent molar ratio of 1 : 1 : 1, the new complexes 1-3 have a mononuclear structure. The most relevant structural parameters of complexes 1-3 are presented in Table S2.…”

“…41 In addition the second peak close to 301-303 nm is observed and assigned to π-π* transitions within the triazole ligand. 39 In the low energy region, close to 370-385 nm a broad absorption band, which is mainly attributed to a metal-to-ligand chargetransfer (MLCT) transition. 34,43,44 Luminescence spectra for the complexes 1-3 recorded in the solid state at room temperature and 77 K and in CH 3 CN solution at 298 K are shown in Fig.…”

“…A red shift of the emission is recorded in almost all cases (except for Cu2a ) when the powders are cooled (Figure ). The observed red shift at low temperatures has been observed in other heterometallic Au(I)/Cu(I) complexes reported in the literature. …”

“…41 Along with this, copper(I) complexes with pyridine substituted 1,2,4triazole and phosphines as ancillary ligands have also been reported to show thermochromic luminescence properties. [42][43][44][45] Considering these facts, we have chosen three different isomeric, molecularly rigid pyridine substituted 1,2,4-triazol-1-yl ligands L 1 , L 2 and L 3 , having multiple coordinating sites at different positions (Fig. 1).…”
