Structure and properties of polyamides‐epoxidized elastomers blends

Abstract: Blends of aliphatic polyamides (PA6, PA66, and PA12), containing 0 -15 wt % nonepoxidized or epoxidized elastomers (statistical copolymer butadiene-styrene BS/EBS or linear block copolymer styrene-butadiene-styrene SBS/ESBS) were investigated. For PA6-elastomer blends, taken as an example, it was shown that with increasing blending time, mechanical properties of blends increase, especially, if ESBS copolymer is used. It can be treated as an indirect sign of reactions between components. It was also found that … Show more

“…To date, the prevailing traditional petroleum-derived plastics employed for diverse purposes encompass high-density and low-density polyethylene (HDPE and LDPE), polyamide (PA), polypropylene (PP), and poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET). 1 This has resulted in the emergence of worldwide concern regarding plastic pollution. Thus, the European countries foster the industry to reconsider production methods in order to decrease the use of fossil resources and to minimize the environmental impact of the products throughout their whole life cycle.…”

“…[39] In blends containing 0-15 wt% non-epoxidized/epoxidized elastomers (statistical copolymer butadiene-styrene/epoxidized statistical copolymer butadiene-styrene or linear block copolymer SBS/ epoxidized linear block copolymer SBS) and aliphatic polyamide (PA6, PA66, and PA12), the mechanical properties of blends were improved and the glass transition temperature (T g ) was increased with the extension of blending time, which was regarded as an indicator of reaction between epoxy and carboxyl groups in the blends. [10,48] The increased toughness of polylactic acid (PLA) by epoxidized polybutadiene (EPB) shows that the introduction of active groups in blends is an effective means to adjust the phase structure and to change the properties of blends. [49] Thus, the reparations of both chain extension and phase interface are the keys to improve the toughness of R-ABS.…”

“…[ 9 ] From the viewpoint of processing, ABS from the discarded products can be processed repeatedly for reuse. [ 10 ] However, as a result of aging arising from the service, the mechanical properties of recycled ABS (R‐ABS) are usually inferior to virgin ABS (V‐ABS), especially the decreased impact strength. This limits the application and reuse of R‐ABS.…”
