Structure and properties of polyurethane/nanosilica composites

Abstract: Nanosilica particles were directly introduced into polyester polyol resins through in situ polymerization and blending methods, then cured by isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) trimers to obtain nanocomposite polyurethanes. FTIR and TGA analyses indicated that more polyester segments had reacted with silica particles during in situ polymerization than during the blending method, accompanied by higher T g and more homogeneous dispersion of nanosilica particles in the polymer matrix from in situ polymerization. Maxi… Show more

“…Silica sol can be added to monomers at the stage of polyester preparation by polycondensation [16]. Nanosilica in PU can be prepared by in situ hydrolysis and condensation of silane-terminated oligomers [15]. Note that everything should be done to avoid agglomeration of nanoparticles.…”

“…Os compósitos de TPU/nanopartículas podem ser obtidos através de polimerização em massa [7][8][9][10][11][12], polimerização em solução [13], incorporação em extrusora [14,15] e extrusão reativa [16]. De acordo com a literatura, os compósitos de TPU com a argila Cloisite® 30B (C30B) são os que apresentam os melhores resultados com relação às propriedades mecânicas quando comparadas às demais nanopartículas [6-11, 14, 15, 17].…”

“…However, some properties of WPU still need to be improved further, such as water and solvent resistance, thermal stability, and mechanical properties. The improvements of these properties have been achieved by copolymerizing or grafting of other polymers, external and internal cross-linking, blending or interpenetrating, polymer network formations, and modifying with nanoparticles [3][4][5][6][7].…”
