Structure, bioactivity, and synthesis of methylated flavonoids

Abstract: Methylated flavonoids are an important type of natural flavonoid derivative with potentially multiple health benefits; among other things, they have improved bioavailability compared with flavonoid precursors. Flavonoids have been documented to have broad bioactivities, such as anticancer, immunomodulation, and antioxidant activities, that can be elevated, to a certain extent, by methylation. Understanding the structure, bioactivity, and bioavailability of methylated flavonoids, therefore, is an interesting to… Show more

“…One factor that could affect TAC is antioxidant bioavailability in vivo because TAC is a parameter that is estimated in vitro [ 55 ]. Antioxidant bioavailability differs depending on the type of antioxidant, such as methylated flavonoids [ 56 ], cooking and processing conditions [ 57 , 58 ], and digestion stages, including the influence of microflora in the colon [ 58 ]. Thus, well designed studies to determine the relationship between TAC and MetS that also consider antioxidant bioavailability are required.…”

“…Flavonoids are a kind of natural polyphenols, mainly including flavonoids, flavanols, flavonoids, anthocyanins, and isoflavones [225]. Studies had shown that flavonoids had definite efficacy in the treatment of agerelated neurodegenerative diseases [226], cardiovascular diseases [227,228], atherosclerosis [229], etc.…”
