Structure dependence of photochromism and thermochromism of azobenzene-functionalized polythiophenes

Abstract: Abstract. Two novel azobenzene-functionalized polythiophenes, poly [4-((4-(phenyl)azo)phenoxy)butyl-3-thienylacetate] (P4) and the copolymer of 3-hexylthiophene and 4-((4-(phenyl)azo)phenoxy)butyl-3-thienylacetate (COP64) have been synthesized. The structure dependence of photoluminescence features and thermochromic behaviors of both azobenzenefunctionalized polymers was investigated. The results show that polymer structure has a strong influence on the conformation and optical properties of the resulting poly… Show more

“…Polymer sensors with specifi c properties or performances under various external stimuli for example, light, [1][2][3] temperature, [4][5][6] electricity, [ 7 ] etc., are practical for the daily life uses. In the past, many types of polymer sensors, e.g., optical polymer sensors, [ 2,3 ] electronic polymer sensors, [ 8,9 ] thermochromic polymer sensors, etc., [ 4,6,10 ] have been reported.…”

“…The polymerization process was confi rmed by the disappearance of the band at 745 cm -1 , which was attributable to C-H α out of plane deformation vibration of thiophene ring [18] . The spectral features of the ester derivative of acetaldehyde are seen in the spectrum, especially the band in the region 1745 -1600 cm -1 which can be attributed to the carbonyl (C = O) stretching vibration [19] and C-O-C stretching vibration [20] .…”

“…It is known, PC containing azo dyes based on the 8hydroxyquinoline have the photo induced optical anisotropy [15][16][17][18][19][20][21]. But, the electro-optical properties of PC containing of this dyes are not investigated to this day.…”
