“…= 1.934 (8)]k]. These distances are slightly shorter than those seen for comparable bonds in the six-coordinate H3dtpa 2- (Seccombe, Lee & Henry, 1975), nta 3- (Whitlow, 1973;Fomenko, Kopaneva, Porai-Koshits & Polynova, 1974), ida 2- (Podder, Dattagupta, Saha & Saenger, 1979), and oda 2- (Whitlow & Davey, 1975) Relationship of solid-state structure to solution structure. The relative ease of protonation of metal chelates has been used as an indication of whether ligand amine N atoms are bound (Kula, Sawyer, Chan & Finley, 1963).…”

“…Nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) has received a good deal of attention because it is used in detergent formulations. Equilibrium studies of Cu(I1)-NTA complex formation have been made (1)(2)(3)(4)(5), and Whitlow (6) has determined the crystal and molecular structure of sodium nitrilotriacetatocopper(I1) monohydrate by single-crystal X-ray analysis. Rabenstein and co-workers (7,8) have studied by nuclear magnetic resonance the ligand-exchange kinetics and solution equilibria of cadmium, zinc, and lead nitrilotriacetic acid complexes with special attention to the state of protonation of the ligand; in the case of copper it was of interest to examine the kinetics of the Cu(II)-NTA reaction.…”

“…Bond lengths, bond angles, and torsion angles for the structure are given in Table 3. The structure is isomorphous with the NaCuNTA.H20 structure reported by Whitlow (1973) …”

“…The stability constants of many NTA complexes have been determined and tabulated (Sillen & Martell, 1964). The crystal structures of the triprotic acid (Stanford, 1967), the monohydrated trisodium salt (Daly, 1967) and a variety of metal-NTA complexes (Barnett & Uchtman, 1979;Battaglia, Corradi & Tani, 1975;Butcher & Penfold, 1976;Fomenko, Kopaneva, Porai-Koshits & Polynova, 1974;Fomenko, Polynova & Porai-Koshits, 1975a, b;Hoard, Silverton & Silver-0108-7681/84/040377-05501.50 ton, 1968;Martin & Jacobsen, 1972;Whitlow, 1972Whitlow, , 1973Wieghardt, Quiltzsch, Weiss & Nuber, 1980) have been reported. The versatility of the NTA ion as a sequestering agent prompted our investigation of the title compounds.…”
