The lactam ring in fl-propiolactam (Yang, Seiler & Dunitz, 1987) is planar, while in strained fl-lactams (Pfaendler, Gosteli, Woodward & Rihs, 1981) the N atom is highly pyramidalized with a deviation of 0.54 ~, from the plane of the three atoms to which it is bonded. In (2), N1 deviates by 0.091 (16)A from the C2-C4-C5 plane and the bond angles at N1 sum to 359.4 (3) °, indicating a very small degree of pyramidalization.…”
