Design and utilization of a Virtual Photovoltaic Systems Laboratory for undergraduate curriculum are introduced in this paper. The laboratory introduced in this study is developed to teach students the basics and design steps of photovoltaic solar energy systems in a virtual environment before entering the field. The users of the proposed virtual lab will be able to determine the sizing by selecting related parameters of the photovoltaic system to meet DC and AC loading conditions. Besides, the user will be able to analyze the effect of changing solar irradiation and temperature levels on the operating characteristics of the photovoltaic systems. Common DC bus concept and AC loading conditions are also included in the system by utilizing a permanent magnet DC motor and an RLC load as DC and AC loading examples, respectively. The proposed Virtual Photovoltaic Systems Laboratory is developed in Matlab/Simulink GUI environment. The proposed virtual lab has been used in Power Systems Lab in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Karadeniz Technical University as a part of undergraduate curriculum. A survey on the students who took the lab has been carried out and responses are included in this paper.

This study presents a real-time line tracking application based on web robot vision. The application is implemented with the help of Web-SUN robot platform specially designed for research and development. Real-time images were processed with the support libraries. The processes such as monitoring, tele-control, parameter adjustment, and remote-reprogramming were implemented on the designed platform through standard Internet browser without any additional software. A projection-based line tracking algorithm and conventional PID control algorithm are used in study. Line tracking experiments are performed on a test track drawn by red tape on floor which includes curves and corners in laboratory environment. In this study, our real-time line tracking experiments was completed smoothly in 10 tours on the test track with a maximum deviation of 12 cm.

ABSTRACT:The Ch Control System Toolkit (CCST) is a software package for the design and analysis of control systems. It is a C/C++ class with member functions for solving control problems in a user-friendly C/C++ interpreter, Ch. Based on the CCST, a Web-based Control System Design and Analysis System (WCSDAS), and a Web-based Controller/Compensator Design Module (WCCDM), have been developed. In this article, using the CCST, WCSDAS, and WCCDM for teaching automatic control of linear time-invariant systems is presented. With the CCST, students are able to solve control problems with only a few lines of C/C++ code. The CCST can also be used to develop various interactive utility programs that will assist students in learning control systems without any programming requirements. With the Web-based WCSDAS and WCCDM tools, students can interactively design and analyze control systems via a Web browser. The CCST, WCSDAS, and WCCDM are open source software packages. These software tools have been used for teaching undergraduate control courses at the University of California, Davis and Michigan Technological University.
