Student use of digital libraries during COVID-19: structural equation modelling in Indonesian and Malaysian contexts

Abstract: Purpose This paper aims to examine the determinants that drive digital library use by university students in Indonesia and Malaysia during COVID-19. A proposed model based on the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology model-2 was implemented. Design/methodology/approach A pilot study was conducted prior to the main data collection to examine the reliability of the instrument. For the structural model assessment, 1,168 responses were analysed through partial least square structural equation modell… Show more

“…Furthermore, by identifying gaps in the existing knowledge, this study can contribute to developing new theories or frameworks that can help explain the relationship between TPACK factors and technology use [46], [47]. This can help to advance the field of educational technology and provide insights that can be used to improve technology integration in educational settings [48], [49]. Lastly, the comprehensive overview of the relevant information can serve as a valuable resource for other researchers who are interested in this topic [13], [14].…”

“…A measurement model is defined as a procedure to evaluate construct validity and reliability of a framework (Becker et al, 2023;Habibi, Yaakob & Sofwan, 2022). The step includes the assessments of data's loading values, internal consistency reliability (ICR), convergent validity, and discriminant validity.…”

“…These digital libraries display the link between information, collections and technological progressions (Fritz et al , 2020). Over the years, the development of digital libraries has been a growing area of study such as in the context of users’ intention to acquire information and enhance their performance (Chang et al , 2009); users’ acceptance and utilization (Park et al , 2009); students’ use intention of electronic library resources (Joo and Choi, 2015); users’ satisfaction (Xu and Du, 2018; Soltani-Nejad et al , 2020); students’ satisfaction (Xu and Du, 2019); various types of big data resources and the value of services for users (Li et al , 2019); individual encounters with the datathon during COVID-19 (Fritz et al , 2020); the potential influence of personality traits on individuals’ intention to adopt among Gen-Z students (Sanjeev et al , 2021); users’ acceptance of blockchain technology for obtaining digital resources (Khan et al , 2022); research scholars’ usage and satisfaction (Iqbal et al , 2022) and students’ usage during COVID-19 (Habibi et al , 2022).…”

“…Fasae et al (2021) studied the response of academic libraries to the outbreak of COVID-19. It compelled numerous academic institutions to close their campuses, resulting in a greater dependence on digital tools for practically all academic pursuits (Habibi et al , 2022). Pokorná et al (2020) emphasized that offering remote access to library services is essential.…”
