Learners' proficiency in ESL includes their ability in comprehending a reading text. Short stories are often found difficult due to linguistic and cultural elements found in the texts. Despite this, Part 2 Diploma students in Universiti Teknologi MARA Perak are required to read a selection of short stories as part of their English class syllabus. In this study, a mind mapping technique is used to assist learners to understand the short stories well. This technique is chosen as its concept involves the process of associating ideas and information through relationship ties. 60 students from 2 English classes were introduced to this mind-mapping technique which they had to apply when discussing the plot of the story and the traits of the main character to ascertain their understanding of the short story. Although the students managed to complete the task well, it was not known whether the mind-mapping technique had helped them in enhancing their understanding of the short stories. Therefore, this paper aims to find out their perceptions and attitudes towards the use of mind-maps in comprehending short stories through a survey questionnaire using 5-Likert scale. The data from the survey underwent a statistical analysis using SPSS before discussing the findings. The findings revealed that the respondents of this study had a positive attitude towards the use of mind-map and perceived it as a useful tool in helping them to understand short stories. Thus, the mind-mapping technique should continue to be used in reading class to help learners to enhance their comprehension of short stories.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak is increasingly widespread in Indonesia at the beginning of the year 2020, the government considers taking policies that focus on implementing the learning and teaching process at all levels. This research focuses on identifying the perception, interests, and challenges of online learning for informatics’ students at AMIKOM University Yogyakarta during the global pandemic. This study uses a descriptive quantitative approach using a survey instrument. This research has succeeded in capturing an overview of the ease, obstacles, and challenges of the informatics’ students in joining online learning from the study results. Discussions and contradictions to these results will undoubtedly be different if they are carried out on different student entities and with various subjects. This research contributes to higher education institutions, especially AMIKOM Yogyakarta University, to evaluate the online learning process. Although the case study presented in this research cannot represent other subjects, students' perceptions can be used as essential feedback for educational institutions.

Digital mind map is a digital tool that is becoming increasingly popular in today’s pedagogical visual aids. However, few empirical studies have been conducted regarding Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) student’s competencies on using digital mind map in learning of their technical subjects. Hence, this survey research was designed to investigate TVET student’s perceptions on the digital mind map to stimulate their learning of technical skills in Malaysian higher learning institutions. Specifically, the objectives of the study were to identify the TVET student’s perception regarding their digital mind map competencies and to examine the relationship between the usage of digital mind and their learning achievement of technical skills. A sample of 372 TVET students were randomly selected from several public TVET higher institutions in Malaysia. The online questionnaires were designed to measure the practice of digital mind map among TVET students. The data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and Pearson correlation. The questionnaire also included three open-ended items and the qualitative data were analysed using thematic analysis. The key finding showed that the majority of TVET students have a positive perception towards the digital mind map. In addition, the main open-ended result illustrated that the digital mind map has a potential to stimulate creativity and design thinking among TVET students in Malaysia.
