Studies of Partial Molar Volumes of Some Narcotic-Analgesic Drugs in Aqueous-Alcoholic Mixtures at 25°C

Abstract: Partial molar volumes of the drugs Parvon Spas, Parvon Forte, Tramacip, and Parvodex in aqueous mixtures of methanol (MeOH), ethanol (EtOH), and propan-1-ol (1-PrOH) have been determined. The data have been evaluated using the Masson equation. The parameters, apparent molar volumes (φ v ), partial molar volumes (φ 0 v ), and S v values (experimental slopes) have been interpreted in terms of solute-solvent interactions. In addition, these studies have also been extended to determine the effect of these drugs on… Show more

“…These solute-solvent interactions get further strengthened with increasing temperatures. Similar types of interactions have been reported by Banipal et al [29]. The perusal of the Table 4 reflects the positive values of V 0 / as obtained for both the binary systems and ternary systems of piperazine citrate.…”

“…In other words, the increase in density may be interpreted due to the enhanced structure of the solvent mixture due to the added drug [5]. The values of the partial molar volume V 0 / (see table 3) are positive in aqueous methanol solution indicating the presence of a strong drug-solvent interactions between the molecules, and the structure having an effect on SBS in aqueous methanol solution [5]. Further it is seen from table 3 that V 0 / values increase with increase in temperature.…”

“…The solution behaviour of alcohol molecules in the water region is largely established by the phenomenon of a polar or hydrophobic hydration [2]. There are some reports available in the literature on the volumetric and transport properties of some drugs in aqueous methanol solution system [3][4][5]. The partial molar volume is a characteristic parameter which is indicative of molecular interactions in the solution phase.…”

“…In other words, the increase in density is attributed to the enhanced structure of solvent mixture due to the added solute (alanine) [29]. An analysis of table 2 brings out that V φ 0 values are positive indicating the presence of strong solute-solvent interactions and weak solute-solute interactions in these systems [30].…”
