The paper discusses the results of a study that highlights the importance of modern biotechnological processes in the framework of sustainable development by analyzing the activities of several international corporations. It is shown that the implementation of the principles of justice and ethics in this context is identified as one of the key challenges for the global community. The paper discusses in detail the concept of the bio-based circular economy, which is already being applied in the EU countries, although with varying degrees of success in long-term operations. It is determined that green project management plays a key role in the implementation of this concept. Particular attention is paid to the impact of the biotechnology industry on the environmental situation. It is established that materials produced with the use of biotechnology can have a negative impact on the environment. An important aspect is also the sustainability of technologies, which implies not only their natural changes but also the ability to adapt to new standards of use. In the context of highlighting these aspects, the article points out the need for further research and development of strategies aimed at effective management of environmentally friendly technologies as well as ensuring their sustainable effectiveness in the long term. The paper presents the results of a study on the role of modern biotechnological processes in the context of sustainable development on the example of a number of international corporations. The concept of the bio-based circular economy, which has been promoted in the EU member countries, although with varying degrees of success in long-term operations, is considered. It is established that the management of “green” projects plays a key role in this context.

This article is devoted to the problem of using microwave radiation as a potentially effective method of cleaning wastewater from organic compounds. The problem of cleaning wastewater from organic contaminants in the food industry requires highly effective methods since protein compounds in wastewater can cause environmental hazards and complicate the cleaning process. The purpose of the work was to investigate the effectiveness of using microwave radiation to purify wastewater from organic compounds, particularly protein impurities, and to establish the possibilities of this method for improving the process of water purification in the food industry. The article mainly examines the use of microwave radiation for this purpose and analyses its effect on proteins usually present in wastewater from the food industry. Experimental studies have shown the possibility of adequate wastewater treatment using microwave radiation. The advantages of using microwave heating, as well as its speed and regulation accuracy, are analysed, making this method attractive for use in wastewater treatment and other industrial production processes. The study includes an analysis of microwave radiation's effect on proteins commonly present in wastewater from the food industry. The research methodology involves modelling the composition of wastewater and using a microwave oven to process protein solutions. The results of the experiments demonstrate the possibility of adequate wastewater treatment using microwave radiation, which opens up prospects for further use of this method in industry and environmental protection. The results indicate the success of using microwave radiation to purify wastewater from organic compounds, notably protein pollution.

It has been noted that worldwide at least 6 million tons of spent coffee grounds (SCGs) are generated annually. This is why a novel means of purifying produced water (PW) from oil production processes in Kuwait using biomass derived from spent coffee grounds (SCGs) as a final step is under investigation. Cellulosic material gained from CGs is functionalized by esterification utilizing acetyl (C2) octanoyl (C8) or palmitoyl chloride (C16). The esterification is carried out to further augment the hydrophobicity of the torrefied, extracted SCG-cellulose to allow for the adsorption of oil and other lipophilic contaminants from the PW. Sorption properties of the thus derived cellulosic esters in combination with activated carbons are reported.
