The present study was designed to investigate thrombolytic properties of chloroform extract of Urena sinuata along with phytochemical study for the presence of phytochemical constituents.The concentrated extracts were collected and allow to air dry for complete evaporation of chloroform. Phytochemical analyses were found to be positive for carbohydrates and gum, reducing sugar, alkaloid, steroid, glycoside and flavonoids. The percent clot lytic activity was compared with water (positive control) and standard enzyme streptokinase (negative control).The mean percent clot lytic activity of chloroform leaf extract of Urena sinuata was found 47.89%, which is significant compare with the positive and negative control. The present study suggests that chloroform extract of Urena sinuata has significant thrombolytic activity.

Plants are the primary source of food, shelter, and various remedial approaches. They are being in use for treating various kinds of human ailments across the world since the ancient times. One of such important plants is Eclipta alba hassk (Asteraceae) which is commonly known as Bhringraj and false daisy. This plant is known for its extra-ordinary therapeutic properties. It is one of most widely used plant in traditional systems of medicines such as Ayurvedic, Unani, Sidha, homeopathy, Chinese, and folk. Each part of this medicinal plant contains many important phytochemical constituents such as coumestans, triterpenes, flavonoids, steroids, polypeptides, and saponins. It is majorly used for enhancing the growth, strength, and blackening of hair. It is used as the main ingredient in many hair oils. It significantly treats problems related to hair such as hair fall, dandruff, premature greying, and baldness. E. alba exhibits many other important biological properties such as anticancer, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-stress, and immunomodulatory. Thus, this medicinal plant is playing a vital role in the medical field and cosmetic industry. The present review is a summary of phytomedicinal importance of E. alba in Ayurveda as well as folk medicine system.

Ultra-high-pressure extraction combined with high-speed counter-current chromatography was employed to extract and purify wedelolactone and isodemethylwedelolactone from Ecliptae Herba. The operating conditions of ultrahigh-pressure extraction were optimized using an orthogonal experimental design.The optimal conditions were 80% aqueous methanol solvent, 200 MPa pressure, 3 min extraction time and 1:20 (g/mL) solid-liquid ratio for extraction of wedelolactone and isodemethylwedelolactone. After extraction by ultra-high pressure, the extraction solution was concentrated and subsequently extracted with ethyl acetate; a total of 2.1 g of crude sample was obtained from 100 g of Ecliptae Herba. A two-phase solvent system composed of petroleum ether-ethyl acetate-methanol-water (3:7:5:5, v/v) was used for high-speed counter-current chromatography separation, by which 23.5 mg wedelolactone, 6.8 mg isodemethylwedelolactone and 5.5 mg luteolin with purities >95% were purified from 300 mg crude sample in a one-step separation. This research demonstrated that ultra-high-pressure extraction combined with high-speed counter-current chromatography was an efficient technique for the extraction and purification of coumestans from plant material.
