Nano-sized silver has drawn a great deal of attention in the field of health sciences owing to its remarkable therapeutic applications. Interestingly, the method applied to synthesize nanoparticles and the choice of reagents considerably influence their therapeutic potential and toxicities. Current research has explored the toxicity, anti-inflammatory, antinociceptive, and antioxidant responses of the malonic acid-capped silver nanoparticles (MA-AgNPs (C) by using sodium borohydride as a reducing agent at low temperatures by employing both in vitro and in vivo approaches. Furthermore, it has highlighted the synergistic effect of these novel compounds with conventional anti-inflammatory therapeutic agents. Acute and sub-acute toxicity analysis performed following OECD guidelines showed that the studied MA-AgNPs (C) are safer, and prominent toxic signs have not been detected at the highest studied dose of 2,000 mg/kg. Cytotoxicity evaluation through brine shrimp lethality revealed 20% lethality at the highest concentration of 169.8 μg/mL. Significantly, positive anti-inflammatory and analgesic responses alone as well as synergism with the standard were identified through in vitro as well as in vivo methods which were more potent at a lower dose (200 mg/kg). Notably synergistic outcomes were more pronounced than individual ones, indicating their prominent effect as a feasible drug delivery system. IL-6 and TNF-α assessment in excised paw tissue through RTPCR technique further supported their anti-inflammatory potential. DPPH assay revealed eminent in vitro antioxidant activity which was further corroborated by in vivo antioxidant assessment through evaluation of SOD in excised paw tissue.

In this study, we have developed a method to synthesize silver nanoparticles by mixing the silver solution with the leaf extract of Pisum sativum without using any surfactant or external energy. In this method, physiologically steady, bio-compatible Ag nanoparticles were set up. These functionalized POLY HERBAL Ag-NPs could be used for targeted drug delivery with enhanced therapeutic efficacy and minimal side effects. Extracellular synthesis of metal nanoparticles using extracts of plants like Pisum sativum (Pea), Zingiber officinale (Ginger) Curcuma longa (turmeric) has been successfully carried out. In this article, Ag-NPs formation using Pisum sativum (Pea), Zingiber officinale (Ginger) and Curcuma longa (turmeric) has been thoroughly discussed. It is well recognized that on treating the metallic salt solution with some plant extracts, a rapid reduction take place leading to the origination of highly stable metal nanoparticles. With this method quick synthesis of nanoparticles was noticed to occur; i.e., reaction time was 1–2 h as contrasted to 2–4 days required by microorganisms. These nanoparticles were examined by various characterization techniques to disclose their morphology, chemical composition, and antimicrobial activity. TEM image of these NPs shows the evolution of spherical, non-uniform, poly-dispersed nanoparticles. A comprehensive study of the anti-microbial activity of nanoparticles was performed.

The current study employs green synthesis to acquire silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Artemisia argyi and appraise their antioxidant and antimicrobial potentials. AgNPs were synthesized using aqueous leaf extract of Artemisia argyi by sunlight irradiation. They were characterized using UV-visible spectrophotometer, FESEM, FTIR and XRD. The antioxidant capacity of AgNPs were evaluated using ABTS, DPPH, iron chelation, FRAP and NO radical scavenging methods. Antimicrobial activities of AgNPs were tested against Esherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus using disc diffusion method. Descriptive statistical analysis was used to identify significant relationship between antioxidant activities of AgNPs. The synthesized AgNPs exhibited brown color light scattering and absorbed maximum wavelength of light at 450 nm. The synthesis of AgNPs was optimum at 0.01 M AgNO3. The green synthesized AgNPs were spherical in shape with size ranging from 16 nm to 32 nm. The FTIR analysis revealed the presence of proteins, phenolic and polar nitrile compounds in the AgNPs. The purified AgNPs possessed a face centered cubic structure with coexistence of silver chloride crystals. The total phenolic and flavonoid of AgNPs were found to be 77.45 mg GAE/g AgNPs and 205.29 mg GAE/g AgNPs respectively. The radical scavenging activity (EC50) showed highest activity for NO (31.33 μg/ml) followed by ABTS (128.82 μg/ml), DPPH (263.03 μg/ml) and Fe2+ (1445.44 μg/ml) with a FRAP value of 1.22 mmol Fe2+ /mg dry weight. AgNPs possessed inhibitory effect against both strains of bacteria in concentration dependent manner. This study discovered that green synthesized AgNPs using Artemisia argyi are promising sources of effective antioxidants and antimicrobial agents with a high surface area catalytic activity.
