“…This 'in-depth' study of severely depressed patients has failed to confirm the previously reported reduced TSH responsiveness to TRH, but in agreement with Loosen et al (1986) demonstrates the absence of any abnormal dopaminergic modulation of TSH release in depression. Since a number of investigations have found no or small effects of antidepressant drugs on the TSH response to TRH (Kirkegaard et al, 1977;Karlberg et al, 1978;Widerlov et al, 1978;Kjellman et al, 1985) the patients studied were allowed to continue their antidepressant medication, as deemed ethically desirable.…”
