Studies on the production of actinomycin-D byStreptomyces griseoruber- a novel source

Abstract: Aims:  To isolate and characterize bioactive metabolites produced by a micro‐organism isolated from a soil sample associated with the roots of a medicinal plant, Azadirachta indica. Methods and Results:  Morphological, cultural, physiological and 16S rRNA homology studies revealed that the organism showed 99% similarity with Streptomyces griseoruber NBRC 12873. One bioactive metabolite (Py2) isolated from the fermented broth was characterized as actinomycin‐D (act‐D). It showed high activity against various Gr… Show more

“…Isolation of genomic DNA, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification, and the sequencing of PCR-amplified product was carried out according to the methods described earlier [13]. Closely related homolog were identified by comparing partial 16S rRNA sequence with the sequences deposited in database at National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) web server (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov), using the standard nucleotide-nucleotide BLAST program [14].…”

“…Actinomycins, such as Act‐D are chromopeptide lactone antibiotics of which more than 30 native and many synthetic variants are known. To date, 27 Streptomyces species and one Micromonospora have been reported to produce various forms of actinomycins . This is the first report of a representative of S .…”
