Seven new p-isophthalao dinuclear lanthanide( III) complexes, namely [ h( JPHTA) ( Mq-phen)4-(ao4)zl(a04), ( h = k Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Ho, Er), where Mq-phen denotes 2,9-dimethyl-l,10phenanholine (Mq-phen) , IPHTA represents isophthalate dianion, have been synthesid and characterized by elemental analyses, molar conductance measurements, IR, ESR and electronic s p m . The variable-temperature w e t i c susceptibilities of [ Gclz ( PWA) ( Mq-phenh ( ClO4 )z 1 ( (lo4), complex were m e a s d in the temperatme range of 4--300 K and the observed data were s u c d y simulated by the equation based on the spin Hamiltonian operator, fi = -28, -3 2 . giving the exchange parameter J = -0.19 an-'.
