Study and comparison techniques in fabric simulation using mass spring model

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to conduct a survey on research in fabric and cloth simulation using mass spring model. Also in this paper some of the common methods in process of fabric simulation in mass spring model are discussed and compared. Design/methodology/approach This paper reviews and compares presented mesh types in mass spring model, forces applied on model, super elastic effect and ways to settle the super elasticity problem, numerical integration methods for solving equations, collision … Show more

“…Each mass point has a position, velocity, acceleration and responds to both internal and 777 Modeling friction behavior external forces. By considering various linkages between mass and springs, different types of mesh have been presented by researchers (Mozafary and Payvandy, 2016a). In this work, the loop mesh is introduced to simulate the frictional behavior of knitted fabric.…”

“…Distances between mass points are calculated according to Equation (1). Parameters values of other model are chosen according to the presented explanation in Mozafary and Payvandy (2016a). Spring stiffness and damping coefficient of fabric samples are determined based on Fast test that is in accordance with a procedure used in Mozafary and Payvandy (2016b) which is illustrated in Table IV.…”

“…17 proposed a mechanics-based elastic deformation model, while Semler 18 used the mixed finite element method (FEM) to calculated the fabric draping behavior by considering the sheet to be an isotropic shell. The particle system model 19–21 and PSM 1,2,2226 are representatives of the discrete physical models.…”

“…However, both models were developed for Jacquard fabrics only and thus not suited for broad application. In addition, the problem of super-elasticity in knitted fabric simulation was effectively solved [4,[23][24].…”
