Study of Andhra Pradesh Clays, Part II—Defferential Thermal Analysis of Clay fractions

Abstract

Five samples of clays from K.amthana, Shekapur, Pachgaon, Srirangpur and Chintriyal were fractionated· by gravitational sedimentation and centrifugation methods to concentrate the clay mineral c.omponents, and the various fractions obtained were subjected to DT A. Shekapur clay. containing large quantities of impurities could be improved considerably by fractionation. The fraction below 2 microns (over 40% of the clay) is mainly kaolinite, free from non-clay minerals and burns white. Most of the quartz present (over 20%) was separ:ated and the presence of illite was de~ec~ed only in finer fractions of Pachgaon and Chintriyal clays. Kamthana and Srirangpur clays showed little improvement.
