Study of Corrosion of Metallic Materials in Ethanol–Gasoline Blends: Application of Electrochemical Methods

Abstract: Ethanol–gasoline blends (EGBs) can easily absorb large amounts of water because of the presence of ethanol. Acidic compounds and ions can be dissolved in water, and these substances can have corrosive effects on metallic construction materials. With the increasing content of ethanol in fuels, the conductivity and ability of fuel to absorb water increases, and the resulting fuel is becoming more corrosive. In this work, we tested E10, E40, E60, E85, and E100 fuels that were prepared in the laboratory. These fue… Show more

“…Due to the presence of bioethanol, ethanol-gasoline blends (EGBs) can easily absorb large amounts of water which may result in corrosion. Moreover, acidic compounds and ions can be dissolved in water and these substances can have corrosive effects on metallic construction materials [51]. Apart from the techno-economic simulation, the environmental effect of bioethanol utilization has been simulated by this study.…”

“…Ethanol v lihobenzínové směsi může navíc sloužit jako katalyzátor pro další chemické reakce. Všechny tyto vlastnosti mohou přispívat ke korozi kovových materiálů, které přijdou do styku s těmito palivy [8,9]. Vyšší polarita prostředí a přítomnost nosičů náboje vede k vytvoření elektrické dvojvrstvy na fázovém rozhraní.…”
