Study of cyclic operation of RO desalination process

Abstract: The performance of a tubular reverse osmosis (RO) process for water desalination was investigated when the unit was periodically forced. The study was performed using a dynamic model that was developed and validated in a previous work of the authors [Al-haj Ali et al., Desalination 245, 194-204 (2009)]. The forcing was carried out through feed pressure using both symmetric and asymmetric rectangular pulses. For a symmetric pulse, it was found that the permeate flow rate increased monotonically with the forcin… Show more

“…35,36 The highly selective catalytic oxidation of cyclohexane to high-value-added chemical compounds 37 is one of the most difficult tasks in chemistry because the formation of the C-O bond and the activation of the inert C-H bond are challenging. 38,39 Important feedstocks for the production of nylon-6 and nylon-6,6 polymers include cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol, sometimes known as "KA-oil" (K = ketone, A = alcohol). A high ketone/alcohol molar ratio is essential for the industry, as demonstrated by the fact that cyclohexanone one of the most significant products of the reaction is a more vital intermediate for nylon-6,6 than cyclohexanol.…”

“…Because of the inherent difference between low-dimensional material membrane and conventional polymeric membrane, results from previous works on polymeric membrane cannot be easily adapted for lowdimensional membrane. In addition, periods of pulsation on the order of subnanoseconds are considered here, while previous analysis [91,93,96,97] considers periods on the order of seconds. The use of these sub-nanoseconds period of pulsation stems from observations from previous studies.…”
