Study of lithium borate glasses containing Bi2O3

Abstract: The effect of Bi 2 O 3 addition on the properties of 30Li 2 O:(70-x)B 2 O 3 :xBi 2 O 3 (0 x 35 mol %) has been studied. Density and molar volume are increasing with Bi 2 O 3 content. The observed decrease in glass transition temperature and optical band gap has been explained on the basis of increase in non bridging oxygen which is supported by infrared spectroscopy.
