Study of low-energy neutrino factory at the Fermilab to DUSEL baseline

Abstract: This note constitutes a Letter of Interest to study the physics capabilities of, and to develop an implementation plan for, a neutrino physics program based on a Low-Energy Neutrino Factory at Fermilab providing a ν beam to a detector at the Deep Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory. It has been over ten years since the discovery of neutrino oscillations [1] established the existence of neutrino masses and leptonic mixing. Neutrino oscillations thus provide the first evidence of particle physics beyon… Show more

“…As recent reactor neutrino experiments indicates large value of θ 13 it is important to study the discovery potential of CP violation in neutrino oscillation experiments in low energy neutrino factory [31]. There are some studies on the performance of low energy neutrino factories [15] in the context of standard model interactions of neutrinos with matter [29,[31][32][33][34][35][36][37][38] and also in presence of NSI [39][40][41][42][43]. In the works related to NSI [39][40][41][42][43] longer baselines like 4000 and 7500 kms has been considered to have larger NSI effect on neutrino oscillation experiments so as to find better NSI sensitivity and in that context CP violation has also been studied.…”

“…In [265] the feasibility of electron charge identification was studied in the context of a low energy NF for a TASD in a 0.5 T magnetic filed using a so-called magnetic cavern. It soon was speculated that a magnetized LAr detector should be suitable as well [266][267][268][269]. Note, that the detectors most likely will have to be deep underground due to the large duty factor of stored particle beams in a NF.…”
