Study of Morphology Wear Model of Moulds from Alloys of Aluminium EN AW-6082 in Injection Process

Abstract: Abstract. The main objective of this research is study the wear of a mould, made in easy machining material; aluminium EN AW-6082 T4 and the surface characterization of mould cavity, used in a polymeric manufacturing process, after several injection cycles. To evaluate the effectiveness of this materials in the plastic injection process, a test part with different thicknesses and shapes was designed and some inserts of aluminium were made. In the way of plastic material, a 30 % fiberglass reinforced polyamide … Show more

“…The friction and wear performance of pure polyamide-6, 5 wt%, 15 wt% graphite filled polyamide-6 and 4 wt% wax filled polyamide-6 (PA-6+4% wax) sliding against stainless steel under dry sliding conditions were studied by Unal et al using pin-on-disc tribometer [7]. Pereira et al have studied the wear of a mold made of aluminum EN AW-6082 T4 and the surface characterization of mold cavity after several molding runs [8].…”

“…As is well known, the parameter Sa is inadequate to study wear, because it does not provide spatial structure information and data about the differences between peaks and valleys [24,26]. [25] [18]. Yet, since the goal of this paper is primarily to compare and monitor the relative wear of cutting tools, Sa seems a good enough parameter for this limited purpose.…”

“…For the formation of the PUR foam, the isocyanate and the polyol must be suitably mixed and stirred to pour them into the mold that has to be previously preheated at a low temperature of up to 70°C–80°C (Olietti et al , 2018). The molds commonly used in the plastic manufacturing industry are made of aluminum alloy, which offers good durability for mass production and very good thermal behavior for molding of thermoplastics and polymers (Akinci and Cobanoglu, 2009; Benavides-Treviño et al , 2022; Pereira et al , 2013). However, it is known that the reaction of the bifunctional groups of the isocyanate-based methylene diphenyl isocyanate (MDI), transforming nitrogen-carbon-oxygen isocyanates (NCO) into nitrogen-hydrogen-carbon-oxygen amides (NHCOO) with hydroxyl groups existing on the surface of aluminum, is responsible for the appearance of urethane bonds closely linked to the surface, causing a strong chemical adhesion between the compound and the aluminum metal alloy (Kim et al , 2005).…”
