Abstract: Background . Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are a heterogeneous group of clonal diseases of the hematopoiesis system characterized by dismyelopoiesis and cytopenia, the presence of cytogenetic aberrations and a high risk of transformation into acute myeloid leukemias.
