Abstract

The placenta is essential for the survival of the fetus. It undergoes different changes in weight, volume, structure, shape and function continuously throughout the gestation to support the prenatal life 1 . The architecture of the placenta is found to be changed in many maternal diseases like diabetes mellitus, hypertension, preeclampsia, eclampsia etc. Among those, gestational diabetes and preeclampsia are two pregnancy-induced metabolic diseases that may jeopardize the health of the mother and the fetus 2 .
