“…T g values are presented in Table 3. T g values agreed with the range reported by Cabaret et al for industrial gum rosin 9 . The value of T g in CA and CI presents no statistical differences ( p < 0.05) among them, as well as T g of CB, CE, and CP.…”

“…This band corresponds to the overtone stretching of the carboxyl group 35 . The characteristic band of carboxylic acid bonding ν(C═O) is observed at 1694 cm −1 9,33 . Finally, in the fingerprint region, between 1500 and 600 cm −1 , the absorption bands found between 1200 and 800 cm −1 are characteristic of diterpenic resins, 32 while specific bands of gum rosin are at 1278 (COC) and 712 cm −1 32 .…”

“…Finally, the total colour differences (∆E) present statistical differences between all the samples (p < 0.05) showing values of ∆E higher than 2, which means that the change in colour in the formulations is appreciable to the human eye [37,68]. The variation in the colour of PBAT due to the addition of GR or UT is because the inherent yellowish coloration of the additives [69,70]. Nevertheless, it should be mentioned that although other packaging applications were transparent and colourless formulations are highly desired (i.e., films), for injection moulded rigid packaging applications, the tendency to yellow does not represent a limitation.…”

“…It is worthy to mention that, gum rosin is a natural complex mixture obtained from the oleoresin of pine trees and its thermal properties could variate depending on the method and process of extraction. In a prior study, Cabaret et al, has reported rosin softening point temperature around 43.8 C. [54] Regarding the thermal stability assessment, Figure 6 shows the TGA and derivative thermogravimetric (DTG) curves of neat PLA and PLA formulations with the TGA varying content of GR and PEGR. Meanwhile, Table 3 shows the onset degradation temperature values (T 5% ) determined at 5% of mass loss and the temperature values of the maximum decomposition rate (T max ), calculated from the first derivative of the TGA curves.…”
