Study of sexual behaviours with different types of estrus synchronization protocols in Boer goats

Abstract: There is still a lack of information on estrus synchronization in goats. Understanding the estrus synchronization protocols and the subsequent effects is important to improve the efficiency of assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) and subsequently would improve the breeding procedures. This study will help in determining the most suitable estrus synchronization protocol and understand better the effect on the sexual behaviour and hormonal effects in goats. A total of 127 Boer does were used and divided int… Show more

“…PMSG, with physiological activities similar to those of FSH and LH, influences follicle development and hormone secretion and is often used with P4 for the ES of dairy goats ( 3 , 34 ). Further, anti-PMSG forms a macromolecular antigen–antibody complex in vivo , neutralising PMSG and reducing its biological titre ( 14 , 15 ).…”

“…The results of this study showed that the SP group had the best treatment regimen in terms of onset of oestrus (32.4 hours, ranging from 26.5 to 38.3 hours) and duration of oestrus (52.2 hours, ranging from 48.7 to 55.7 hours). Salleh et al (2021) Boer does were divided into three groups with different durations of intravaginal CIDR for 14 (two groups) or 9 days (one group) -0.5 ml cloprostenol (PGF2α) was administered intramuscularly to all groups after CIDR removal, and only groups eCG 14 and eCG 9 were administered 200 IU of eCG intramuscularly. The percentage of females in heat 24-72 hours after CIDR removal was significantly higher in the eCG group compared to the non-eCG group.…”

“…In addition, an estrus examination was carried out every day by observing visual estrous signs and behaviours. Estrus is established when the does show clinical signs of estrus, i.e., reddening of vulva, swollen vulva and discharge from vulva, tail wagging, and standing to be mounted by a buck (Salleh et al, 2021).…”
